Ella Thavendran
Ella Thavendran (she/her)
B.A. (Hons.), M.Sc. (Cognitive Science), M.Sc. (Psychotherapy) (Candidate)
Ella is a thoughtful and empathetic therapist who strives to create a space where clients feel genuinely seen, heard, and supported. She believes that therapy is not a one-size-fits-all process and works collaboratively with each individual to tailor the journey to their unique goals, needs, and strengths. Ella understands that reaching out for therapy can feel overwhelming, and she approaches this first step with patience, encouragement, and deep respect for each person's story.
Having grown up in an immigrant family, she carries a personal understanding of the importance of cultural sensitivity and the many layers that shape a person’s experiences and mental health.
Ella is currently completing her Master of Science in Psychotherapy at McMaster University. She previously earned a Bachelor of Arts in Cognitive Science and Linguistics, as well as a Master of Science in Cognitive Science (Neuroscience stream). Her academic background reflects her deep interest in how thoughts, emotions, and brain processes influence human behaviour and wellbeing.
Ella is passionate about working with youth, young adults, and adults who are experiencing depression, anxiety, and life stressors. She primarily draws from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) principles, supporting clients in building practical tools to manage difficult emotions, challenge unhelpful thinking patterns, and move toward valued goals.

Ella is committed to lifelong learning. She continues to strengthen her skills by attending professional workshops, engaging with emerging research in CBT and psychotherapy, and seeking opportunities for additional training to ensure her practice remains informed, flexible, and client-centred.
