Melissa received her Masters in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University, following the completion of her Bachelor of Arts in Honours Psychology degree from the University of Waterloo. Her training experience includes engaging in counselling in a private capacity with teenage and adult clients struggling with anxiety, depression, emotion regulation, chronic illnesses and relationship issues, among other difficulties. Melissa has years of mental health experience at Homewood Health and in the inpatient mental health unit at Grand River Hospital. Additionally, Melissa currently works with individuals, couples, and families on improving relationships, well-being, and healing from trauma as a therapist with Willowbridge Community Services.
Melissa is a kind and caring practitioner who uses a person-centred and collaborative approach to build a supportive therapeutic relationship with each of her clients. As a lifelong learner, Melissa values using evidence-based approaches to help her clients reach their goals. Melissa has sought further training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy through Wilfrid Laurier University, and this specialized training is central to her work and informs her treatment practices. Melissa’s main clinical interests include anxiety, stress, relationship issues, and emotional regulation.
Continued Professional Development
In addition to Melissa’s training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), she has Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) training from the Medical University of South Carolina. Melissa has also sought relationship therapy training at the Gottman Institute. Currently, Melissa is learning more about narrative therapy and is receiving training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).
