Elida Nexha, BSc, MSc. (candidate)

Elida’s therapeutic approach is collaborative and judgment-free. She is understanding of the different paths of life that we all come from and how we each have unique experiences that make us who we are. As an immigrant, Elida empathizes with the uncertainty and fear of life changes and stressors, and takes a curious and culturally sensitive stance in therapy. Elida views therapy as an empowering journey toward healing and growth. It may be difficult to take the first step, but it is also courageous.

Elida believes in the importance of meeting the client where they are. Elida values tailoring evidence-based psychotherapy approaches to fit the client’s individual needs. Elida sees the client as the expert on their life. As she learns from you, you will learn of her knowledge and expertise. Elida will work to help you build stronger skills to navigate future challenges while managing past burdens as well.

Elida is completing her Masters of Science in Psychotherapy at McMaster University. She completed an Honours Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto, majoring in Psychology and Health Studies. Elida has experience working in several private clinics where she was involved in clinical interviewing, assessments, and client intake. She also has experience as a crisis counsellor with Kids Help Phone/Crisis-Text Line where she supported youth and adults in crisis.

Elida is knowledgeable and has skills in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). She is also knowledgeable in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Elida takes an integrative approach that draws on different therapeutic modalities to work towards alleviating difficulties.

Her focus is on supporting youth, emerging adults, postsecondary students, and adults experiencing symptoms of anxiety, depression, self-esteem, OCD, and interpersonal conflicts surrounding personal and school life. To further her professional development in psychotherapy, she continues to attend conferences and workshops, read related books and research articles, and her own personal growth.

PERSONAL LIFE

In her free time, Elida enjoys being in nature, painting, reading, and playing sports. She also enjoys going to the cinema and getting lost in a movie while eating popcorn and Reese’s minis.
