Scott is a psychotherapist and assistant professor with an interest in providing evidence-based, compassionate care.  Scott received his Master’s degree from Princeton Seminary and completed supervised practice at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton where his focus was on providing combined mental and spiritual health care.  He received post-graduate training in:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) 

  • Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) 

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) 

  • Narrative Therapy 

  • Brief Solution-Focused Therapy 

During his career, Scott has had many opportunities to offer counselling to individuals and teams, along with various management roles. Scott has experience supporting individuals experiencing substance use disorder, resettling after becoming refugees, and those who are coping with the multiple complications of living with poverty.  Scott has also provided psychotherapy in return to work rehabilitation, focusing on issues of obsessive-compulsive difficulties, anxiety and depression. Currently, Scott holds a position at the Family Health Team where he provides therapy to individuals of various stages of life and mental health presentations. Scott also holds a faculty position as assistant professor at McMaster University where he currently teaches in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences.

Scott enjoys working with adolescents, emerging adults and adults who are struggling with OCD, depression, anxiety, feelings of displacement, anger, hopelessness and experiences of grief and/or loss. He continually holds a high value for vulnerability, spirituality, and meaning-making in the therapeutic process. 

Continued Professional Development

Scott engages in ongoing supervision and education to stay up-to-date in the latest approaches to therapy and to continue enhancing his abilities. Scott has received graduate level training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy, and Brief Solution Focused Therapy. He also continues to learn from each client he sees at VCC, who are showing him what it looks like when resilience grows anew.
