Claire Peace

BA | CYC | MSW | RSW
(SHE/HER)

Claire is passionate about seeking and speaking the truth, and finds deep meaning in how this compliments the therapeutic process. She cares to come alongside others in identifying and addressing barriers to how they've been able to understand the truths of their intrinsic value, their desires, their needs, and however else they might be feeling stuck. Claire seeks to listen deeply, and approach everyone and everything she encounters in the therapy session with curiosity and compassion. She identifies as a queer, white settler and believes in the importance of a therapeutic practice that is anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, and humble in understanding our colonial pasts, both in our personal histories as well as how our culture and systems are constructed.

Claire's experience has largely been working in the education system, which involved providing support, advocacy and therapeutic interventions to children, youth, and parents navigating the various ways in which student engagement and success can be impacted by mental health challenges, grief, family dynamics, substance use, and any of the other curveballs that can come with being human. Claire has also worked with children, youth, and adults seeking shelter from domestic violence and houselessness, and is engaged in providing workshops and facilitation related to anti-bias and anti-racism education.

Claire uses an integrative approach to providing therapy, seeking to centre the client as the expert of their own story. Her focus has been supporting individuals with symptoms of depression, anxiety, grief and loss, self-esteem, interpersonal difficulties, and concerns related to the school setting. She engages in a number of theoretical frameworks including but not limited to CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, acceptance and commitment therapy, and narrative therapy. She completed her Master of Social Work degree at Laurier University, and has an earlier certificate in Child and Youth Counselling from Humber College.
