Rachel Gibbs

Rachel is a graduate of the Masters of Social Work program at the University of Toronto. She was trained in the assessment and treatment of anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders at the Anxiety Treatment and Research Centre (ATRC) at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Hamilton. Here she co-facilitated cognitive behavioural (CBT) groups and provided individual counselling. In addition, she trained in the Child & Youth Outpatient Mental Health program at the Oakville Trafalgar Hospital, where she provided both individual and group psychotherapy within a multidisciplinary team. Following her graduation, Rachel worked at the Anxiety Treatment and Research Centre (ATRC), the WSIB Mental Health Speciality clinic at St. Joseph’s Hospital and as a counsellor in the Student Wellness Centre at McMaster University.

Rachel has been with Valley Centre for Counselling since September 2017. She enjoys working with youth and emerging adults experiencing anxiety, OCD, and perfectionism. Rachel has a keen interest in providing evidenced-based OCD therapy and providing coaching and resources for loved ones supporting individuals in their lives with OCD. Rachel uses a collaborative approach and strongly believes in building a strong foundation of trust and rapport with her clients.

Continued Professional Development

As a strong advocate for embracing the growth mindset, Rachel believes that committing to constant learning is crucial to her success as an informed therapist. Rachel has completed trainings in CBT for Anxiety & Perfectionism, Brief Solution Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Complex & Developmental Trauma Therapy and Healthy Relationships.

Personal Life

Outside of her work at VCC, Rachel enjoys travelling to unique places with her husband and friends. In her spare time Rachel enjoys golfing, swimming and calligraphy. She enjoys spending summer weekends at the cottage with her family.
